In France, the National Marine Museum (Musée National de la Marine) opened a new permanent exhibition titled Treasures from the Ocean (Trésors d’océans) on June 21, 2002, displaying discoveries made during underwater archaeological research along the route to India. This is something new on the museum scene, and not only in France.

The 17th century Citadel of Port Louis (in the Lorient region), which itself is steeped in history, accommodates the new collection. Created by Agence Philippe Délis/Integral Studio and experts from the Musée national de la Marine, the layout and design of this exhibition blends perfectly with the citadel. It’s renovated rooms offer a charming setting for the modern exhibition concept.

Visitors are transported to the depths of the ocean in search of centuries-old treasures.
